Organic Rankine Cycle (ORC) Technology

The Organic Rankine Cycle engine uses medium grade heat energy to generate electricity. This technology 'harvests' medium grade waste heat (~280°C) and uses it to change the state of a liquid to gas in a sealed system. This expanding gas drives a turbine connected to an alternator.

Many organisations use primary energy as part of their process and lose waste heat to the atmosphere through chimneys, flues and stacks. By introducing a solution to recover waste heat and convert it directly into electricity an ORC engine provides a cost effective facility to off-set imported electrical energy. in addition, this technology provides low grade (65°C) hot water which can be used for space heating, process heating and hot water production.
